Country Music

Posted on: October 6, 2010

I have never been an avid country music listener or fan. Too many tractor and shot-gun references for me. However for some reason, probably the influence of my friends, I have started listening to 105.1 and watching country music videos online… who am I these days?!

(The picture above instantaneously changed my opinion on tractors, btw.) Every other country song I hear almost brings me to tears. The beauty of the lyrics, the depth of the message, the purity of the love… is there actually a place in this world where people believe this stuff?? If so, it is definitely not LA.

Look at some of the lyrics in these songs for example…

The Good Stuff, by Kenny Chesney

I saw a black an’ white picture an’ it caught my stare,
It was a pretty girl with bouffant hair.
He said: “That’s my Bonnie,
“Taken ’bout a year after we were wed.”

He said “Spent five years in the bar,
“When the cancer took her from me.
“But I’ve been sober three years now,
“‘Cos the one thing stronger than the whiskey:

“Was the sight of her holdin’ my baby girl.
“The way she adored that string of pearls,
“I gave her the day that our youngest boy, Earl,
“Married his high school love.”
“An’ it’s a new tee-shirt saying: ‘I’m a Grandpa’.
“Bein’ right there as our time got small,
“An’ holdin’ her hand, when the Good Lord called her up,
“Yeah, man, that’s the good stuff.”

Then, by Brand Paisley

I remember, trying not to stare the night that I first met you
You had me mezmorized
And three weeks later, in the front porch light
taking forty-five minutes to kiss goodnight
I hadn’t told you yet
but I thought I loved you then

And now you’re my whole life
now you’re my whole world
I just can’t believe the way I feel about you, girl
Like a river meets the sea,
stronger than it’s ever been.
We’ve come so far since that day
And I thought I loved you then

I could just see you, with a baby on the way
And I could just see you, when your hair is turning gray
What I can’t see is how I’m ever gonna love you more
But I’ve said that before

And now you’re my whole life
now you’re my whole world
I just can’t believe the way I feel about you, girl
We’ll look back someday, at this moment that we’re in
And I’ll look at you and say
And I thought I loved you then
And I thought I loved you then

Damn. Goosebumps every time. My coworker and I always have talks about “what is life?” and we always come to the same conclusion. It’s not money, work, etc. but spending time with those you love. I hope you find some time to spend with those you love <3.

Thinking of you,

Cleo

Love these songs!!

I have a small special place in my musical heart for country. That twang has always set the soundtrack to memories of great friends on hot summer days. Nice idea Cleo.
